Barcelona: Thousands of voices against the Temporary Detention Centres for Migrants

Around 1,000 people marched yesterday, January 11th, in front of the Temporary Detention Centre for Migrants (CIE) of Barcelona’s Zona Franca to demand the closure of detention centers for foreigners and justice in clarifying the case of Armenian citizen Aramis Manukyan, “Alik”, who died in the detention center on December 3th 2013. At the same time, they denounce the abuse that some inmates say they suffered on December 31st, January 1st and January 2nd by members of the Spanish police. They also denounce the institutional opacity in refusing the entry to the center to MPs and members of human rights organizations, such as the organizations Tanquem els CIE, SOS Racisme and Migra Studium. The march was organized by these three organizations and by the group Te Kedas Donde Kieras.
